Hosting Social Gatherings & Private Functions in Gold Coast Parks – What You Need to Know

Planning a social gathering or private event in a Gold Coast park? Whether it’s a birthday party, wedding, or community event, it's important to understand the local regulations, especially if your event involves more than 50 people or requires additional infrastructure like jumping castles, large marquees, or amusement activities.

Do You Need to Book a Park for Your Event?

No booking required if:

  • Your gathering has 50 people or less.
  • You only bring tables, chairs, and a small (3m x 3m) marquee.

🚨 Booking required if:

  • Your event has more than 50 attendees.
  • You plan to bring a jumping castle, inflatable equipment, amusement activities, or animal-related entertainment.
  • You want to set up a marquee larger than 3m x 3m.

Booking ensures that no other large group events will be approved for the same location and time. However, it does not guarantee exclusive use of the park or its facilities.

Jumping Castles & Inflatable Equipment – Rules & Restrictions

If you plan to have a jumping castle or inflatable amusement, you must:
Hire a professional operator to supply, install, and operate the inflatable.
Jumping castles are NOT allowed in Gold Coast foreshore parks.

Other Important Park Regulations

  • Parks are maintained on a routine schedule, but special mowing or servicing before your event is not provided.
  • Council will not issue park gate keys or unlock gates for private functions.
  • If you fail to book an event that requires one, or breach parkland terms, Local Law Officers may issue penalties under Local Law No. 9 (Parks and Reserves) 2008.

How to Book a Park for Your Event

You can submit a booking enquiry via the Gold Coast City Council's online form.

Final Thoughts

Gold Coast parks offer fantastic venues for social gatherings and private events, but it’s crucial to follow the council’s guidelines to avoid fines or disruptions. Make sure to book your event if required, adhere to the jumping castle regulations, and cooperate with other park users for a smooth and enjoyable celebration! 🎉🌿
